“Although it’s good to try new things and to keep an open mind, it’s also extremely important to stay true to who you really are.”

Eleanor Oliphant might be completely fine, but I’m not! After finishing such exhilarating story, it left me wondering about life long after reading the last pages.

The characters are what really shined for me in this novel. Eleanor Oliphant was a bit out of place in the world. She had issues from the past that she wasn’t ready to confront, so she carries on with life living a ‘normal’ routine. She goes to her 8-hour office job every 5 days of the week, and spends her weekend in her apartment with tv, books and vodka. But an incident with an old man in the streets made her life turn a complete 360.

Now another star of this book was Raymond. He was the new IT guy from Eleanor’s office. Soon after saving the old man from the streets, the three of them became friends. Eleanor, the socially awkward girl, had friends! And good ones for that matter. Raymond became such a big part of Eleanor’s mental and emotional healing. And I couldn’t ask for a better supporting character in a book. For me, he resembled warmth and honesty.

This book tackled mental illness, which was so important, and did it flawlessly. It was about life and survival and believing that better days are attainable. Hands down, a must-read for everyone!
