DIY Oreo Pops: Looking for Alaska by John Green

"If people were rain, I was drizzle and she was a hurricane."

Chocolate coated Oreo on a stick?! Sign me up! This Looking for Alaska dessert is fun and simple to make and enjoy!

Of course, it wouldn't be right to start off this blog without a John Green content. Looking for Alaska is the author's first published YA book and a personal favorite of mine.

So if we put Looking for Alaska and chocolate covered Oreos together, I think it would be a party! (I mean a reading snack.)

The things that you'll need:
  • A copy of your book (I own the Harper Collins UK edition.)
  • Oreos
  • Suckers
  • 200g dark compound chocolate or black candy melts
  • 80g white compound chocolate or white candy melts
  • Yellow gel food coloring or yellow candy melts
  • Sandwich bag or pastry bag

Whats fun about this project is that you can alter the recipe without really messing it up! So feel free to use your creativity. If you have any questions with alternatives, just send me an email!


Procedure:

Open your Oreos in halves and place the sucker in the middle of the creamed part cookie.

Melt 30g of your white chocolate in the microwave in 5-10 second bursts and mixing the chocolate in between to prevent from burning it.

Once your chocolate is melted and smooth, dab a bit in the center of the cookie. This will act as the glue. 

Gently place the other half of the Oreo cookie back and press the center with your finger.

When you've done all of your Oreos, pop it in the fridge for 10-15 mins to chill.

Take your dark chocolate and place it in a microwave safe bowl. Melt 200g for 5-10 second intervals until it has no lumps. Alternatively, if you don't have a microwave, you can melt your chocolate in a sauce pan or over a double boiler.
Take out your Oreo pops from the fridge and dip it in the melted chocolate. 

Make sure the whole cookie is coated. Tap the excess to prevent it from dripping.

Let it harden in the fridge or at room temperature.

While waiting for your chocolate-covered Oreo pops, melt the rest of your white chocolate. Separate a little bit and add a very small drop of yellow gel food color. 

Place your chocolates in a sandwich bag or pastry bag. I'm using both so you could see that they are both pretty efficient. 


Cut a very small bit at the end of the bag and get ready to pipe.

Now this is a technique that I love to use, and everybody appreciates-- the eyeball method!
